This program uses robotics to introduce young people to mechanical and electrical engineering concepts as well as computer programming.
Phase 1 uses humanoid robots called Robosapiens to introduce young people to robotics in a fun and non-intimidating way. Students use an open source tool called "Robosapien Dance Machine" on a computer to create scripts that can cause the robots to perform dance routines or other series of commands.
Phase 2 introduces the LEGO Mindstorms robotics kit. Participants build their own robots and write a program to control it using LEGO's ROBOLAB software.
The Robotics Challenge is usually run over a semester or summer session.
