Dear Neighbors
I can feel the end of winter is near and my crocuses are blooming! It's been a wonderfully mild winter but I enjoy warmer weather. This time of year makes me eager to get at raking the lawn, washing the windows, planting flowers and --what am I saying? I'm exhausted just making a "to do" list! As your alderperson I have been meeting with developers who want approval for new projects and changes to plans already in the development stage. Most development has taken place south of PD/McKee Road with new single family neighborhoods and condos being added at a fast pace. In this part of the district we have the new condos at the corner of Raymond and McKenna Blvd. A Speed Lube is being planned for the spot near the Meadowood Shopping Center where the auto repair shop used to be. A Staples and discount sporting gear store should be going in on the north end of the Home Depot development. Any time someone wants to build we have to decide how much traffic this will generate and whether it is acceptable to the district. Traffic and speed continue to be concerns for many of you who call me. I try to balance the need to maintain the vibrancy of the neighborhood with the concerns of congestion. The South Beltline will be under some construction this spring. The bridges over Whitney Way, Gammon Rd. and Mineral Point Rd. will be redecked. The Wisconsin Department of Transportation will keep lane closures to a minimum at peak morning and evening rush hours. Widening ramps and installing ramp meters (traffic signals on ramps) will begin in the fall of 2000 and spring , 2001. Ramp merging lanes will be constructed between Verona Rd. and Whitney Way both east and westbound. The Verona Rd./West Beltline Advisory Committee is looking at alternatives for that congested interchange. We have studied options to make getting on and off the beltline at Verona Rd. easier and safer but have not come to any conclusions. This development is many years away. Spring means the following for District 7: Sidewalk repairs will be starting MGE will be trimming trees near power lines Spring leaf and garden waste collection Leaves and garden waste should be placed at the curb April 3 and 17 if refuse is collected on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday. If refuse is collected Thursday or Friday, your dates are April 10 and 24. Leaves should be piled loose at the curb or street edge (not in the street!). Residents who bag their material should leave the bags open at the top. As always, I am available at the Meadowridge Library from 7-8:30 pm the last Friday of the month. You can also contact me at 271-5201 or e-mail me at district7@council.ci.madison.wi.us.
